National, local and international actors aiming to support nations transitioning toward democracy from violent authoritarian states, such as was the policy under Apartheid (Das and Kleinman 2000: 7; Adonis 2008: 8) in South Africa, have increasingly turned to the field of transitional justice (TJ) for solutions.
